New Mission Time

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Well I accomplished my last mission: finishing a full marathon.  My next mission will be to lose the weight I gained while acheiving my previous mission.

I started out this morning by running 2.5 miles on the treadmill.  It felt good to get back to running.  My raw heels and black toe didn’t bother me as much as I thought they would.  Tomorrow I will conquer my first FIRM workout in probably 2 months.  It is going to be fun.

After my workout this morning I planned my food for the remainder of the day.  I’ve stayed on track so far.  One thing that is helping is not keeping money on me that would eventually be donated to the snack machine in exchange for some extra weight around the stomach.  😉

The 8 Days of Thankgiving – Day 1

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

I’ve decided that in my blog each day between now and Thanksgiving I would list something I am thankful for that day.  That gives me 8 days of Thanksgiving.  🙂

Today my Mom is coming home from Florida for the holidays.  I am thankful for both of my parents.  As my brother and I have gotten older we have easily slipped into friendships with both our parents.  They are very supportive of everything we do even if they don’t agree with it 100%.  They are there when we need them and know when to step back and let us go and do our own thing.  They are very generous and caring people when it comes to everyone.

Ok…on to our regularly schedule program.  Last night I went out for 5-7 miles.  At mile 3 my calves were tight, I was tired and hungry and I stopped.  I was staning in the street looking a lamp post and scolded myself to falling victim to mind games.  I ran one more lap around the court to snap myself out of it and then was on my way again finishing out another 3 miles.  I felt so much better after I had all 6 done.  I have been reading a thread about losing motivation on the boards and I think it planted some thoughts in my subconsciou that were sabotaging me last night.  I have vowed not to read that thread anymore.

This morning I did a FIRM workout and then celebrated with my healthy cheesesteak alternative.  It is getting to be cold out and it is making me turn towards my comfort foods.  Cheesesteaks being one, but pizza really is my number one favorite.  I need to go to the store and get some whole wheat pitas, pizza sauce and Sargento low-fat mozzerella so I can make my own from home.  Jerry’s Subs has a sm cheese pizza that is only 13 pts, but I am finding it really hard resisting eating the whole thing.

Almost forgot, today I get my first ever flu shot. It is recommended that people training for a marathon during the winter months get a flu shot becuase your defenses will be down as your body heals from all of your runs.  I must admit I am a little nervous.  :/

The Results are in!

Monday, November 12th, 2007

The results from yesterday’s race were posted.  I finished in 57:44.  Just a minute and 11 seconds slower than last year.  I will definitely take that.

I did lose 1 lb this week as well.  Woo woot!

Weigh-in 11/5

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Today I had to skip my WW meeting because of another meeting, but I made sure to at least weigh-in today since I missed it the last two weeks.  I knew it was going to be a gain.  Vacation, Halloween and my birthday all in one week proved to be too much for me.  It wasn’t as bad as it could be with only a 2 lb gain.  I will have that back off in no time.  I am off to a pretty good start today, but I have been really hungry.  I think it is some lingering effects from my run yesterday.

Healthy Cheesesteak?

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

I was craving a cheesesteak today.  One thing I have found about eating healthier is there is almost always a way to feed a craving in a healthier way.  Maybe not a completely healthy way, but you can definitely lower the impact on your wasteline with a little imagination and effort.  I went to Jerry’s Subs and Pizza because they disclose their nutritional info on their site.  I can definitely tell you that places that make their NI known get more patronage from me than places that don’t.  With one exception I will discuss below.

I ordered the 4 inch Super Grilled Chicken.  Don’t make a face…4 inches is larger than it sounds and is more than enough when you get the thing piled with veggies.  The Super Chicken comes with green peppers, mushrooms, american and provolone cheese.  I asked them to leave the american cheese off to lessen the cheesy load and I got it with onions, tomato and lettuce.  No mayo.  They do offer non-fat mayo packets if you are into that thing, but I prefer the taste of just the veggies.  I did splurge some and got it on the honey wheat bread.  I estimate it overall to be about 300 calories and 4 grams of fat.  I ordered the combo and got the side salad with light italian instead of the fries and a diet Coke.  Since I only used 1/3 of the dressing my WW points total came out to about 8.5 and I certainly fed that cheesesteak craving.  Not bad huh?

So back to that exception of places that offer NI….Outback.  I have a weakness for their Vanilla Bean Mashed Sweet Potatoes which are only available on Wednesday.  The mashed sweet potatoes are only available when you order one particular entree as well.  This season it comes with sirloin, chicken, shrimp, and green beans.  To most this may present a problem because that is a lot of food.  I make it an advantage though.  As soon as the food hits the table or I pull the container out of the carry out bag I get to work cutting everything in half.  In the end I get two sometimes 3 meals out of the one.  I estimate half of the meal to be about 11 pts.  I am probably totally off on that, but I can say that it hasn’t effected my weigh-ins and I get this meal every Wednesday.
