So this weekend the SkullzDotCrew wandered out to the Ozfest. This was my first Ozfest experience and I rather enjoyed it. We accidently got on 495 going in the wrong direction on the way there, so it took a little longer than we had wanted it to. This caused some of the crew to miss Cradle of Filth, but we made it in time to see all of the acts that I wanted to see: Disturbed, Korn, Manson and Ozzy.

This was the second time I had seen Distrubed play and last time they were the headlining act, so their set was much shorter than I was accustomed to, but they did get to play a lot of the new stuff that I hadn’t heard them play live before, which was pretty cool. They had a large copy of the symbol off their album hanging on the curtain behind them, which I want. I tried to talk Apok and M into helping me steal it after the show so that I could hang it from my roof when I buy my house, but they weren’t cooperating. Oh well, I will just have to learn how to bend steal and make my own one day. Maybe that will be the project I can request when I sign up for Trading Spaces? Do they do roofs?

After Disturbed came on Manson took the stage. I had never seen him perform before and he lived up to everything everyone ever told me he was as a live performer. The show was great. He had lots of props worked into the show despite the short set time. He even included a scene with him wearing Mickey ears, two large banners of him wearing Mickey ears and a large blow up of his head wearing Mickey ears. He sang “It’s a Small World” and went into “Beautiful People”, which is Mom’s favorite Manson song. He would have made her proud.

Korn followed Manson. I had never seen them before either. I have one of their CDs and several MP3s, so I was looking forward to hearing them. I was able to watch this set through the armpit of the guy in front of me so that I didn’t have to stand up. I was really happy when the started playing “A.D.I.D.A.S.” becase that is by far my favorite Korn song.

The show was concluded, of course, by Ozzy taking the stage. I am afraid that his years as a live performer may be limited. He can still get the words out and his singing voice is still there, but the words don’t surface as fast as they need to. He also missed some words. I had vowed to stay awake for his entire performance though because I had fallen asleep during his set at Merry Mayhem. What can I say? After watching Zombie bound around on stage for a while I was tired! But under no means would I actually show Zombie my ta-ta’s!

We got on 495 in the right direction on the way home and made it in no time. I was exhausted and smelly when we got back so I went straight home to shower and get to bed.

Well I am actually busy this week at work, so I am going to get back to doing my stuff.

Phone Interview

Friday, August 22nd, 2003

Welp I just had a phone interview for a job in the area. Problem is they would want me to continue for 4 or 5 years doing what I currently do, which is not what I want to do in the long term. I am looking to get into web applications development, and not continue with Access applications development. At least I am being honest with myself and am not rushing to get into another position just for the sake of moving out of Lucent.

Reverse Engineering

Tuesday, August 19th, 2003

So I was talking to a higher-up person at work today. The conversation, in less-technical-more-cutesy terms, goes something like this:
Person: So how did you know that the kitten didn’t have an owner?
Me: Because the owner field on the adoption certificate was blank.
Person: Ah…reverse engineering
Ok! This person obviously doesn’t know the definition of reverse engineering. Is it too much to ask to want to work some place where they know what “reverse engineering” actually means?

So I can’t give you an update on class because the teacher never showed last night. Yup, he didn’t show up again! Imagine that! Hopefully I will have really good news in the next day or 2. Our current dilemma is that our final is supposed to be due this week and we have yet to be told what is going to be on the final. Last night we were supposed to be given a walkthrough on what exactly we would need to do, but in order to do that you need to have a teacher.

Pablo Francisco

Monday, August 18th, 2003

Sorry I have not blogged again regarding what is happening with school. I promise that after tonight I will be able to fill you in on all the juicy details.

This weekend we ventured off to the Improv. I had never been there before, so I was pretty excited about the new experience. It was a good time. The show included PT Chang, Rob Little and Pablo Francisco. PT and Rob were hilarious. A lot of Pablo’s stuff I had already heard on our local morning radio station, so his stuff was funny but not a new funny, if you know what I mean. Titus will be at the Improv two weeks from now, so there is a good chance that we will be going then as well.

Bad Teaching

Thursday, August 14th, 2003

So there is a lot of stuff going down with my summer class and I just feel like I have to share to get it off my chest. Our teacher is a stickler on technical writing skills, but there was not a pre-requisite for the class that we took a technical writing class. We have been docked for font sizes, tables borders, label locations, etc., on all of our papers. It has really been a nightmare. Several of the most out-spoken members of the class have decided to form an alliance to go to the administration with the complaints we have had about the class.

I have been very reluctant to join the group. The only thing that I can see happening is that the administration will give us the option to drop the class. I don’t want to drop the class, but at the same time I feel cheated. The course description for 605.485 described a class where we would be learning not only how to judge how well an e-commerce server operates, but also how it does what it does; what is needed to make an e-commerce server work. In my mind I was thinking that we would learn how to estimate what amount of memory and hard drive space we would need for our anticipated work loads, and stuff like that. The course has been nothing like that.

Today I ended up joining the alliance. Mostly because the head of this group has been sending out e-mails saying stuff like, “If you dont, any remedies of the situation will probably not apply to you and will not help your grade (we are assuming) if you get your final back with points off for font size.” When I joined I voiced my concerns about not wanting to have to drop the class. If I do then my graduation will be pushed out a year unless I double up on classes in the Fall. I can’t really double up in the Fall and the Spring without tiring myself out, and when my body and mind become tired I usually end up getting sick.

So I am not sure what the future holds for this class. I am going to keep working on my paper as I always have. I am just nervous of what the outcome of this alliance is going to be.
