Weekend Hangover

Tuesday, October 19th, 2004

Yesterday I sufferred from what I am going to call the weekend hangover. I went non-stop most of the weekend to the point where Sunday I couldn’t sleep and Monday I called out of work. I hate that I felt the need to call out so soon after starting here, but I just knew I was going to be a waste if I came into the building. I rested up and got caught up on some little odds and ends stuff I needed to do and came back in this morning more rested.

So what kept my busy all weekend? Well Friday Lauren arrived and Zanbowser joined us for tacos, video games, and cards. Saturday we ventured up to Field of Screams in PA for some entertainment. Sunday I started the day with my brother’s hockey game and ended it with a Volleyball double-header. On the way home from Volleyball Dad suggested we stop at Taco Hell and I think that is what finally did me in. I was up most of the night with a stomach ache. Can’t say it wasn’t worth it though.

Mom finally gets home from her month long trip to Disney tomorrow night. So aside from seeing “Sky Captain” with John tonight, I also have that to look forward to this week.

Good Weekend on the Horizon

Thursday, October 14th, 2004

There is a pretty good weekend coming up. Lauren will be coming in to town and staying with Joe and Ange, so I will probably be over there a good bit. I know there are plans for Jason’s Woods on Saturday. They redid the hay ride so that it has a Wizard of Oz theme, so I am really excited to see that.

Sunday is another Volleyball double-header. Unfortunately we lost a player today because of knee problems and three other team members can’t make it. Hopefully the remaining six will all be there so that we don’t have to play with a phantom player.

Tonight’s menu will include leftover Caramel Apple Pork Chops which I made for John on Tuesday. Every time I have made them they have come out a little different as I try to perfect the recipe, but they have yet to disappoint. If you decide to give them a try I suggest that you cook the pork chops in the oven at 350 for about an our with a little oil on them and some oregano. After the chops have been in the oven for about 15 minutes start preparing the apple mixture (I add a tiny tiny bit of oil to this as well) so that you can put it on the stove when the chops have about 30 minutes left to cool. Put the apples on the stove over a medium flame and stir occasionally. When the apples are just beyond crisp they are done. By Just being crisp I mean they have that baked feel without darkening and becoming sour. Serve the chops with the apple mixture poured on top. I usually serve them with baked potatoes and green beans. For a special treat I like to dip my potato in the apple mixture as I take each bite. Potatoes Au Gratin also make for a nice side dish to this meal.

Internal Alarm Clock, oh how I loathe the!

As I went to finally go to bed last night around 2 AM I decided to change my wake-up time on my alarm clock from 5:40 to 7 o’clock. However, my body’s trustworthy little alarm clock flipped into full gear around 5:45 AM rousing me from my sleep. So much for my extra 1 hour and 20 minutes of sleep.

Making the Move – Mozilla

Saturday, October 9th, 2004

So I finally decided to make the move to Firefox today. I had heard so much about how great it was through blogs of certain people and in several forumz, so I decided I would go ahead and download it.

Thus far I am thoroughly impressed. I love how it imported all of my links and favorites from my IE settings. The interface is really clean, and I can feel a performance difference between it and IE. Since it was a great success I decided to get Thunderbird while I was at it. I haven’t gotten to play with it as much since no one has really sent me any e-mails , but hopefully I will get to play with it more as the week goes on. Thus far I am impressed.

Now back to our regularly scheduled weekend house cleaning. 😛

Paying the Price

Wednesday, October 6th, 2004

So I got a total of 2 hours sleep last night. It is my own fault though. I stayed up past my bedtime because I was engrossed in conversation with good company. By the time I got home and walked the dog I was on second wind and my mind was wandering. I tried stopping in the SDO IRC to clear my mind, but I wasn’t able to enter their conversation because I was too groggy to figure out what on earth they were talking about.

Today is going to be a busy day. I have several meetings here at work and tonight Mike has a hockey game. Hopefully tonight the sheer exhaustion will knock me right out. Either that or I am going to have to hit myself in the head with something to knock myself out because I won’t survive two nights like last night in a row.
