One more week…

Monday, August 27th, 2007

My 1/2 is only a week away.  I feel prepped.  Want to get in two more runs before heading to the West Coast on Thursday.  Tonight I am planning on 7 miles and then 4 or 5 on Wednesday.  Then I will be doing plenty of walking the rest of the week as we hit the Disneyland parks.  Sunday we have the 5K, which I plan on just walking wiht my Dad and Monday is the big day.

My eating this week has not be stellar, so I skipped WI at WW today.  I know, first week and I am starting already!  I am using my race as an excuse, but I really need to stop that.

I-ate-a-bug!

Got out for 5 miles last night.  The weather was perfect for me.  Slightly cool at 68 degrees, cloudy and a slight breeze.  My ankle felt really strong for the run.  Feels a little weak right now, but I think it will be ready in time for my long run this weekend.  I was going to run 3 on Friday and then 8 on Saturday to prepare my body for the 5K one day and 1/2 Marathon the next that I will be experiencing in Anaheim.  Really I should walk on Friday because that is what I plan on doing in Anaheim for the 5K.

Last night I had another one of those unpleasant bug eating experiences in my run.  Your running along, minding your own business.  Open your  mouth to take a nice deap breath and before you know it the bug has flown into your mouth and into the back of your throat.  I think swallowing is your bodies first instinct.  I tried coughing, but it was too late.  Thinking about it though I am sure it was a much worse experience for the poor bug.  🙁

WW Take 2…er….Whatever!

So I signed back up for Weight Watchers at Work.  I need someone to keep me accountable for what I am eating and there is something about weighing in in front of another person that just makes me want to be good.  I have been on plan for 2 days now and feel good about it.  Next week might be a little tricky with the trip to Anaheim, but I am hoping my parents will help keep me honest.  Plus I will be running my half marathon down there and walking like crazy, so hopefully that will make up for any indescretions I might have.

My ankle is feeling a little off this week again.  I am hoping, after the half to give it a full weeks rest before I start back at my full marathon training and then I will be taking it easy for a least another week as my body recovers.  I got my bib number in the mail this week.  I will be # 2722.  I was #27333 for the WDW Half in January, so I am thinking that my # for the full might be #271?  🙂

Taper Time!

Monday, August 20th, 2007

I ran my last 10 miles on Saturday before starting my taper leading up to the race.  The race which is two weeks from today!

I thought I was making good time on my long run and then I saw someone come down to the track and started walking.  After about 1 mile I realized I wasn’t catching up to the them!  At that point I made it a point to at least pass them once before I finished my 10 miles and I only had one more mile to go.  I think it was within my last 1/4 mile that I finally caught up to them.  That made my 10th mile my fastest, which was pretty cool to me.  Once I hit 10 miles I started my cooldown walk.  The walker caught up with me and that is when I realized the whole time I had been trying to chase down my brother’s friend Steve.

And this mile goes to…

One thing that is recommended to help you pull yourself through a race is that you dedicate each mile to someone who will inspire you.  I printed out my pace band today for the 1/2 and started assigning names to each mile.  Here’s what I have:
Mile 1 11:27 My co-workers – couldn’t make it w/o their support
Mile 2 22:54 Uncle John – battled and defeated cancer
Mile 3 34:21 Joe & Ange – I know Abby would want me to  😉
Mile 4 45:48 Mike – what are brothers for but to inspire you?
Mile 5 57:15 Melissa – a strong and beautiful friend and mother
Mile 6 1:08:42 FBC – a great group that can talk you up from your lowest lows
Mile 7 1:20:09 Leigh – a breat cancer survivor with a beautiful spirit
Mile 8 1:31:36 Selena – a little girl with the strength of 1,000 men, Cody’s twin
Mile 9 1:43:03 Cody – a little man with the heart of a lion, Selena’s twin
Mile 10 1:54:30 Grandmom – at 80 she can outdance anyone on Dancing with the Stars
Mile 11 2:05:57 Dad – would give anything to be out there running it with me
Mile 12 2:17:24 Mom – you name it, she’s had it, but she is still here cheering me on
Mile 13.1 2:30:00 Pop – my gaurdian angel
