A Good Day

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Yesterday was a really good day for me.  I started out with a good workout and after a trip to the grocery store I ate very well.  Dairy – Check!  Protein – Check!  Healthy Oils – Check!  Fruits and Veggies – Check!  …in serveral different colors – Check!  I actually ended up with several extra points at the end of the day.  I spent them on Weight Watchers Ice Cream.  Not the best choice, but it hits a spot that needs satisfying if I wish to stay sane, lol.

I am off to a really good start today as well.  I didn’t get a workout in this morning because I was sleepy, but I have been eating well again.  I know as my body detoxifies I will get my energy back.  I was notified this morning that my Wii will be arriving today so that will probably be my workout for the day, lol.  Tomorrow I will head out for a short run of 3 or 4 miles as I ease back into my mileage.

Rock Bottom

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

If there is such a thing as “rock bottom” I feel as though I hit it Friday and Saturday.   Friday I woke up with a massive amount of sinus pressure.  This led to a lay around and do absolutely nothing day.  I guess one “benefit” of the single life is that I can still get away with this kinds of things.  Sunday I woke up nausiated and then the slowly developed into another headache and another day of lying around and doing absolutely nothing.  Between those two days I managed to consume an entire stuffed crust pizza by myself chased by a pint of Ben and Jerry’s Americone Dream.

Yesterday I woke up and the sinus pressure was still there, but I wasn’t going to let it get me down.  I forced myself out the door and cleaned up outside the house.  Grass was cut, mums were pinched, daffodils were tied back and bushes were pruned.  I came back in and took a quick nap.  I think it was a combo of the heat and continued food coma from Saturday and Sunday that triggered the nap.  After about an hour I got myself out of bed and went to work.  Dusting, vacuuming (including moving furniture), windexing, scrubbing, … the whole 9 yards.  The house is spotless and that makes me very happy.  I feel much more in control when everything is in its place.  I still want to go through the stack of papers in the office and do a bit more tidying in the guest room.

As a part of my attempts to conserve energy I have been avoiding turning on the air conditioner.  It was worked really well so far too.  Last night I turned on the ceiling fan and set another fan on the table that I aimed at the dog.  All was well till about 3:30 this morning.  The dog started panting and the whole bed started shaking.  I decided to stop torturing her and headed down to turn on the AC.  By they time morning came around I was freezing, but I know it was going to be a warm and humid day and I didn’t want Tillie to be uncomfy.  I did turn the thermostat up to 72 before leaving the house so that the AC wasn’t working over time.

Got back to running this morning.  I have only run once in the last 10 days.  Between my bad eating and a painful ankle I just couldn’t get myself out the door.  My ankle is feeling great after 3 miles this morning.  I iced my ankle carefully after the run.  I plan to try to keep my mileage down for a while and then slowly build up for the half marathons in the fall.  I do still plan to do 6 miles this weekend and then I have the 7 mile race the next weekend.  After that I will drop the mileage down to a 5 mile long run and build a stronger base.

8 Day Recap…

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

It has been a very busy 8 days for me.  Shall we recap?

Last Thursday my great uncle passed away after a battle with heart disease and cancer.  He was the last of my Grandfather-on-my-mothers-side’s brothers.  I memorialized him on Friday by walking the Relay for Life in his memory.

Saturday I squeezed in a 4 mile run to help me reach my 410 miles walked/ran goal for the Walk Across Arizona.  After a quick shower I headed over to the SkullzDotHouse for a Indiana Jones Marathon in preparation for going to the drive-in and seeing the Crystal Skull last night.

Sunday there were several viewings for my Great Uncle and then Monday was the funeral sandwiched between several hours of working from home.  Tuesday was the all important 2-hour NCIS finale which forced me to cut the grass and run on Wednesday.

I am really looking forward to the long weekend ahead.  I have not been eating very well at all for the last few weeks so in addition to eating healthy my plans are to run and clean and maybe catch the UFC at my brother’s on Saturday.  I need to clean my sun room to prepare it for the arrival of my new toy next week.  Yes, I pre-ordered myself a Wii so that I can play the Lego’s Inidiana Jones game amongst many others.

This is how Flirtini rolls…

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

This morning I decided to take the Flirtini out for a run.  I even took a picture for you all.

\

This picture is multifacited.  It is a gansta picture for J-Mom, a bathroom shot for Marcy, shows off Flirtini and also includes a very dimly lit guest appearance from the Tilliemonster laying on the floor in the doorway behind me.

I can’t believe I am actually going to share this, but since Marcy said it is the only way to roll, I decided to head out the door this morning in my skirt with built in compression shorts sans skivies.

The Flirtini is an older style than the black skirt I ran in two days ago.  The cut of the shorts doesn’t have the nifty control panel built in and is short one pocket, but the wasteband does seem to sit higher and actually act like a wasteband.  The skirt fit much nicer than the black one, but the shorts still did the ride up a little then stop thing that I experience with the running skirts shorts.

I rather enjoyed my run in my skirt, but I think next time I will include the skivies.  I think they might cut down on that constant wedgie feeling I was getting from the ill place seam in my compression shorts.

Walls of Motivation

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

I was asked to post some pictures of my medal shadow boxes for the DisneyRunning.com forum, so I thought since I was getting them up for them I would post them here too.  I had them all framed and had trouble finding where to hang them.  I ended up moving the Irish and Australian flags that belonged to my grandfather into the basement and using the wall leading into the basement.  These pictures don’t include the stuff I got from the 5K and 15K last weekend.  Here is the wall into the basement:

In addition to the motivation from the medals I have what I actually call the “Wall of Motivation”.  This is the wall in the basement that my treadmill faces.  I need something to keep me going on the dreadmill right?
